At Noyes Park on Friday afternoon, it was a three-run eighth inning that would push the Silversmiths past the Rome Generals. With Sherrill trailing by one run, Reece Armitage led off with a single and reached third after stealing second and advancing on a grounder by Sean Doherty. Andrew Roden would then come up to the plate and deliver the game tying RBI single. With Roden on base, Chris Turco hit his second home run of the game to give the Smitties a decisive 10-8 lead.
Jake Vennaro got the win for the Silversmiths after holding off the Generals in the eighth inning. Rylan Baker tossed a scoreless ninth and earned the save. Connor Van Dreason got the start on the mound and pitched four innings; Gavin Schaefer-Hood threw two innings to set things up for Vennaro and Baker.
Chris Turco and Sherrill native Andrew Roden carried the load offensively, each with three RBIs and three hits. Reece Armitage, Sean Doherty, Alex Stroshine, and Juan Familia each contributed an RBI as well.
The first place Silversmiths (5-1) will travel to Lafayette High School on Saturday to take on the Cortland Crush. The Smitties and the Crush will square off once again on Monday at 5 PM here at Noyes Park.
